These days, a lot of people find their partners using dating apps, but not too long ago, you had to go out into the real world to meet your soulmate.
And yes, even celebrities had to do the hard work when it came to pursuing their potential one true love.
Just talk to Maureen McCormick, who is 67 years old. She noticed her future husband for the first time at a concert, but she really captured his heart at church.
Maureen McCormick is famous for her role as Marcia in The Brady Bunch, which aired from 1969 to 1974. After the show finished, McCormick, who was born on August 5, 1956, starred in a number of spin-offs related to The Brady Bunch.
After The Brady Bunch ended, she had a really tough time in her personal life, even though she was famous from the show. McCormick faced challenges that hurt her reputation as an actress, including battles with drug addiction, feelings of sadness, and bulimia.
She shared with People in 2016, “I’ve faced many tough moments, but I use those experiences to learn and become a better person.”
“I received treatment in a psych ward, entered and exited rehab, and prayed to God for guidance.”
While the former child star was fighting her cocaine addiction and realizing that her acting dreams weren’t going as planned, she met a guy at a concert who she just knew would be her future husband.
“I turned around and saw this guy behind me,” McCormick wrote in her autobiography, Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice.
“I’d never seen him before. He had dark hair, a great build, and chiseled features. I looked straight into his eyes and thought, ‘This is the man I’m going to marry.’”
McCormick started her new routine by joining the same Bible studies as Cummings. She made sure to sit close to him during church services. The old Brady was really curious and wanted to learn all about Cummings.
It actually happened! After hanging out with him for a while, they went on their first date, and everything changed from there.
From the very start, she was super honest with me. She’s always been straightforward, like an open book. I never stressed about her going back to her old ways because I thought, no matter what happens, we can handle it together, Cummings shared with the Daily Mail in 2015.
Although McCormick described their relationship as “quick and passionate,” it wasn’t always smooth sailing.
McCormick kept struggling with her drug addiction and trying to stay sober, which made her push Cummings away all the time. But he always stayed by her side.
In her autobiography from 2008, she wrote, “Michael mentioned that he had promised to stick with it for life and would keep trying until it just couldn’t work anymore. He believed that being a child star had stopped my growth, and honestly, he had a point.”
Even with all the challenges they faced, the couple, who welcomed a child in 1989, is set to celebrate their 37th wedding anniversary on March 16.
McCormick shared that the main reason he and Michael stayed together through all the tough times was their faith. He said, “We both believed that our love was genuine, powerful, and worth fighting for, no matter the challenges we faced. Our faith helped us see that our love was truly real.”
It is so refreshing to hear of another celebrity couple who have stood the test of time and stayed by each other’s side even when things got tough.
